Since you are here, chances are that you want to know something about the law. However, you probably already understand a lot more about the subject than you realize because everything we do and everything we touch is governed by some form of law. Matters relating to historic preservation - from archaeology to zoning - are all touched by some kind of regulations. It is the often complex, and sometimes admittedly boring nature of the study of law that often prevents us from know and understanding the laws that affect our preservation practice. Faced with complex and often antiquated language, a body of knowledge that is constantly in flux with each changing administration, and a group of practitioners who are, well let’s just consider this question: What happens when a lawyer is made godfather? He makes you an offer you can't understand! The goal of this website is to help you understand the laws affecting historic preservation so you are better able to understand the law, its procedures, and its applications.
